About Community Futures
Locally rooted. Nationally connected. Built for rural Canada.

Who We Are and Why We Exist
Community Futures was built on a simple conviction: every entrepreneur in rural and remote Canada deserves the same access to capital, advice, and opportunity as they would have in a major city. For more than 40 years, we have been proving that conviction right, one community at a time. Our 267 offices are an essential delivery network that rural, remote and northern communities across Canada depend on.

Mission
To strengthen rural and remote economies by empowering entrepreneurs, supporting communities, and advocating for the conditions that let local businesses start, grow, and thrive.

Vision
A Canada where every rural and remote community has the tools, capital, and support it needs to build a prosperous and resilient future.

Role In Our Community
Community Futures Organizations are woven into the fabric of rural Canada. They are not distant institutions — they are the neighbours, volunteers, and advisors who show up at the farmers' market, the town hall, and the kitchen table. CFOs provide financing and tailored support that starts, grows, and sustains businesses — often in communities where no other support exists. They also deliver specialized programs for underserved groups including Indigenous entrepreneurs, newcomers, women, youth, and persons with disabilities — breaking down barriers to entrepreneurship and strengthening local economies from the ground up.

Any question, phone Sagehill, and you’ll get an answer. If they don’t know, they’ll find one.

Community Futures delivers a unique combination of financing, advisory services, and community economic development programming — tailored to the context of rural and remote Canada, and governed by local volunteers who understand what their community needs.

For Community
We invest in community economic development projects that build local capacity, support cultural initiatives, and strengthen the foundations that allow rural communities to grow and adapt. Our CED work reaches beyond individual businesses to shape the environment in which all businesses can thrive.

For Business
We provide flexible loans and financing to small and medium-sized businesses that may not qualify through traditional lenders. We offer business planning support, mentorship, and advisory services at every stage — from the first idea through to long-term growth and succession planning.

For Partners
As the national voice of Community Futures, CFNC brings rural and remote perspectives to federal policy discussions, ensuring the CF network is recognized as essential infrastructure within Canada’s economic strategy and a permanent foundation for rural prosperity. We work with federal, provincial, and regional partners to align rural economic development priorities, share performance data, and coordinate program delivery across the network.

Our Team
CFNC is governed by a national Board of Directors composed of representatives from provincial Community Futures Associations — ensuring regional input and pan-Canadian alignment. A dedicated central staff team executes national advocacy, communications, coordination, reporting, and administrative functions. Together, they ensure that the voices of 267 CF offices and the entrepreneurs they serve are heard at the national level.
